While we are on the subject of alternative scripting methods...

I posted a message to uk.comp.sys.mac the other day in response to a post
about using UI scripting to do a mail merge in Pages.

The gist of the message was "what's the point of pursuing AS?".

Apple's apps have increasingly poor support for AS.

The information about Automator on the developer site makes it look slick -
but *so* limited compared to what you can achieve with a good AS dictionary.

If you install a product like F-Script Anywhere (http://www.fscript.org/)
you can see how open the Cocoa architecture is. It's like a dream AS
dictionary!

Is there any point in pursuing AS or should we give it up and get on with
learning obj-C so that we can hook directly into the apps we want to
control?
