surely you can set text style directly in fmp ?
you certainly can. It's actually much harder to drop styles when they
are present than it is to pass them in. However, some applications
don't support styled text, they just generate a graphical
representation on the screen. Perhaps that's what you're getting.
BBEdit used to do that.
