The replies have been fewer than anticipated, so let's make it worth
your while.
If you reply off-list with your billing rate strategy, I'll send a
summary table to you that has the country of residence, currency, and
rate of the respondents. I will not identify any individual who
submits a rate. Those of you who write scripts on a consulting basis
may find it interesting and/or useful information. I had never
bothered to think about it until yesterday. I know what rate Cal
would charge, and I know what other computer professionals charge,
including for training. So I've got some reference points for this
data. In any case, the information may prove useful to some, and I'll
organize it if I get a reasonable response. Location could be as
precise as city, or as lose as country.

I've just been asked to do an AppleScript job for someone, and they
were offering a set hourly rate. It it was a significantly lower
rate than I would normally charge, but it got me to wondering what
others' expectations are. For those of you who do scripting for
hire, what do you charge, and how do you normally price jobs? By the
hour, by the job, other? If you don't want to post to the list
about this, can you answer off-list please. I'm just trying to see
if I'm out of line with my thinking. Where I live there really isn't
anyone else doing this, so maybe I just have a captive market.
