Good arguments, Tom. But there are surely some alternative
explanations for this 'crazy unscriptability' of Pages 1.0:

That's a bit strong. But it's safe to say that AppleScript is not
held in high esteem in every group at Apple. Then that is apparent
from the products, isn't it. If there were a mandate from Steve Jobs,
it would change that situation, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting
for that.

Have you ever look at the structure of a Keynote document (technotes
TN2067 and 2073)?
It is clear that the app is ONE interface between the user and a data
structure.
It's the same for Pages.
It will be quite easy to work on these XML documents to do repetitive
tasks.
A mailing for instance will be done from a lup which will store some
value in defined place holder in a text file.
This will be doable thru AppleScript.
