Probably not. But if you're wanting a script in an app's script menu,
there's probably a reasonable chance it will be talking to that app.

But you don't put applications in script menus...

"Impedance"? If you mean the slow-down, then you're talking about something
outside the control of Mail. Scripts in the system-wide menu are run by a
separate app.

Unless someone tells us, we can only speculate why it's been dropped. My
guess is because they decided the system-wide menu was "good enough". My
honest opinion is that this is a shame, but not the worst call they could
make. If they'd complete the actual scripting support, I'd consider it a
good trade-off.
