  Hey,
Why did I want to use plain AS for this problem? Well, no good reason at
all actually. Old habit.
When I was first learning AS, my mentor frowned on third party scripting
additions, offering the argument that one never could tell if said
scripting addition would be on a client machine. Thus, he taught me to
always favor "plain AppleScript."
Obviously, a shell script is in no way a third party scripting addition.
Instead, it's a powerful tool in the toolbox. I intend to make much use of
shell scripts in the future.
    Best,
       jt

I've been using a shell script for years and never had a problem.
