Hmm - which one's which again?
Anyway, maybe something of a moot point? IIRC, Folder Actions are
run as different process compared to simply double clicking an
application - so presumably namespaces are different? Where does
that leave properties and their storage?
Back in Jaguar I created some window handling folder actions that
stored settings in properties such as you would seem to like to do
(see FAwindowing 102 available at Versiontracker and MacUpdate).
Panther changed all that by not doing so. After some concern about
writing to an external file would be slow and cumbersome, I gave it a
go and discovered reading back prefs from the text file didn't seem
to make any difference to performance (see FAwindowing 103). Now that
Tiger returns the previous behaviour, I probably won't go back
because reading external files is what is most apps do anyway from
Preference.plist files.
