Get value of PowerManagement Plist key? / Keychain

  • Subject: Get value of PowerManagement Plist key? / Keychain

Hi all -

I'm trying to create an applescript to use in Quicksilver that will toggle the processor speed from "Automatic" to "Maximum". I've found the setting that I'll need to change in pmset and am just trying to get the current setting for the Dynamic Power Step key from the com.apple.PowerManagement plist located in the global preferences folder.

If I use:

defaults read /Library/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement

I can grab *all* of the settings, but if I try to just grab the one I want:

defaults read /Library/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement "Dynamic Power Step"

I get an error.

Any ideas?

Oh, and also: is there a way to store and use the admin password from the keychain in the context of an applescript? Apparently pmset requires root / su access in order to set values, and I'd like to set it up so that the password has to be entered only once.

Thanks!

Neil
