There are several aspects to consider.
First off, most people who were going to abandon the Macintosh have
already done so. I suspect the remaining developers are here until
people stop buying their apps.
Second, NextStep did some interesting things that may be returning.
Notably, in addition to running NextStep (now Mac OS X) on Intel
hardware, they also had the NextStep software layer (now Cocoa)
running on Windows. Given one, it's not much of a stretch to imagine
the other returning. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to sell
Macintosh apps to Windows users?
Third, the choice of processor isn't really very important today.
They're all hitting the performance wall and benefits are weighed
against detriments. There's no clear cut winners, unless you
consider the size of Intel to be a win. Otherwise, you can argue
about chip features until you are blue in the face. Floating point is
an issue for some people, but not for everyone. Graphics cards are
other people's reason for caring. Some people are concerned about
bus speeds and expansion slots. The list goes on and on.
Finally, we're all cursed with living in interesting times. ;)
