In response to various responses to my earlier post:
Let me say that I have no use for windows either. My anxiety is that
developers who see that they can hit the chip with instructions based
on windows will no longer see an incentive to develop for both
platforms. For a huge number of applications, quartz won't matter.
Maybe my anxiety is ill-founded. Those developers probably aren't
worrying about the Mac anyway. And maybe my fantasy about how intel
chips make this possible is not correct.
I don't think virtual pc is as fast as a native windows app targeting
the chip through the windows dll without intermediation by the apple
foundation, so virtual pc is not exactly the same as having a competing
OS in the same box.
There, I've gone way beyond what I feel competent to comment upon. I'm
just an applescript/filemaker amateur after all. But I always feel a
hint of anxiety when I see a possible threat to my beloved Macintosh
line.
