Ummm - actually it IS "Version 1.0" so that's not too surprising. I think
you're quite correct. If it's any consolation, version 1.0 of AppleScript
Studio was just like that too, but has improved a lot since.
However, it's quite possible to script everything you've been asking about
in the Finder, without problems, once you accept that Applescript is
different form all the other programming languages you've used. AppleScript
dictionaries are very cryptic, but do contain most of the information you
need. People will reply here to put you on the right track, and you'll get
used to Applescript's quirks in about two year. ;-)
