I don't think Matt's suggesting that anyone be "content accepting anomalies"; if anything, folk should raise merry hell with the culprits to get them fixed. Rather that it's a duplication (i.e. waste) of effort to repeat work that's already been done for you.
(FWIW I'd like to have used the old "standing on the shoulders of giants" analogy here, but it'd give Mr Neuburg a big head...:p)
