I had problems with Eudora sending mail before. It was due to a firewall that filters out a message that Eudora uses that no other email client does. It is something about pinging the server for authentication capabilities. The problem is that if the message times out Eudora hangs. If the message is accepted or rejected, everything is fine.

My solution was to run to the SMTP server via ssh making the email packets invisible to the firewall. Of course, I had to get a Unix expert to set up ssh, and I had to change the ports used in Eudora (which requires an extra plugin, plus some applescripting). If I was to do it again, I would duplicate each account and just have an applescript turn one account on or off (i.e. prevent checking and sending of mail) ... instead of actually modifying the parameters in real time. I thought of putting "nossh" in the name of personalities that should not be used when ssh is used and "withssh" in personalities that should only be used when ssh is active ... which assumes that you would want to use ssh sometimes and not other times.
