I think there is not (still) such scripting addition for OS X.

The folks at Serac Software ensure "SerialPort 1.2 is compatible with all
MacOS versions from 7.1 through 9.1 and works with USB-only Macs when you're
using any USB to Serial converter. As long as your script is running in
Classic mode, then it also works great on MacOS X 10.x." ($10)
