That is something that OS 9 and possibly OS 8 can do. Shareway at $?? per box is required otherwise.. Tiger can't change the server's options.
This is off topic for an AppleScript list but these links are worth a visit. I do think that anything over IP is OK. It's probably just other things like AppleTalk over Ethernet that are the problems.
