I am starting out trying to teach myself some ascripting, and thought
it would be good to try and automate something I do frequently.
However, I seem to have hit a roadblock wrt automating printing....
Basically, what I want to do is:
1) take a bunch of pdf files (already living in a specific folder)
2) send the pdf files to a printer that supports 2 sided printing
(which is not my default printer)
3) set the options for the 2 sided printer (i.e. long edge binding etc)
4) have the files print out without any further user interaction (i.e.
drag the folder of files on top of the droplet, grab a cup of coffee
and head over to our office copy machine that is doing the 2 sided
printing etc)
is something like this possible in ascript, or am I barking up the
wrong tree?
should I look at gui scripting, create a 2 sided printing preset, and
then change the preset (via gui scripting)?
or, do I need to use another apps printing engine (preview doesn't seem
to have a library I can open)
thanks in advance
PS-it seems like this should be easy, but looking back in the archives
it seems this has caused a lot of head scratching....
also, another related question, I looked thru the finder's dictionary,
for the standard suite->commands I
see the print command:
print: Print the specified object(s)
print reference -- list of objects to print
[with properties record] -- optional properties to be included
with the print command sent to the application that prints the direct
object
To me, it looks like I might be able to get started if I know what the
structure of the record is for [with properties record] ..i.e. the
structure of the optional [with properties record]. Does anyone know
how I go about finding out what the optional [with properties record]
is? I can't for the life of me figure this out from the dictionary....
thanks again
