OK, you win. But the following does not work from the
Script Menu. Note that I'm in MacOS X 10.3.9.

Anyway if you have problems with Apple's
script menu it might be worth trying my FastScripts utility, which is
very very much like the script menu but with some enhancements. It
might be that whatever you are running into would be alleviated in
FastScripts since it's more like a "regular application"
than the Apple script menu is, even though it doesn't appear to be
one.
