Is there an easy way to convert styled text to HTML?

Depends what you mean by 'styled text'.

Styled text as per Apple's styled text type and as returned when you copy text from a FileMaker Pro 6 text field whose contents have been styled with bold, underline and italic styles. We were writing routines yesterday to get this data out of a system which is being end-of-lifed and it'd be good not to loose the styling.

While AppleScript does define a 'styled text' type, it's largely a dead duck these days.

Which will explain why all the tools I found for dealing with styled text need to run under OS 9.

There are some tools for OSX by Lyomei Sakai. I didn't try them all but according to the dictionary you could make a script generating html from styled text using those commands.
