Plexiglas is poly methyl methacrylate; the name is a trademark of the Rohm & Haas corporation. The same stuff, made by DuPont, is Lucite.
It is sometimes called "cast acrylic" to avoid proprietary names. The casting process produces a substance that cracks fairly easily.
General Electric's Lexan is a polycarbonate which is much stronger and more resistant to scratching.
And why does this have anything to do with AppleScript? One of the first jobs I did, in Hypercard, was to prepare a demonstration of production of Lexan from bis-phenol monomers. I had molecules with carbon and hydrogen atoms linking up in successive "cards" as they formed into long chains.
The stack doesn't work anymore unless I bring up my SE/30 in OS 6.0.8.
