An when we fall into some error or miss in the manual, what are we supposed to do ?

Seriously, this part of the discussion is waste of time. People can ask any question they need an answer for.

A link to a tutorial on the original question is a correct answer.

People also need international report of things that are not in the manuals (read my previous mail on the date format) since some script will crash or broke or even bugs (wrong results) if runing on different language (or on your domestic version using a different clock setting for example).

BTW: all of the above is of course IMHO ;). You can disagree :(

HTH,

Emile

PS: giving advice like "if you count make serious development, buy book X" can also be considered as welcome mails.

As I understand it, this list is not for the purpose of teaching people Applescript, but to help each other over the hump when encountering a situation that is not readily solvable.

Well, according to Apple:

"The applescript-users list is for scripters writing scripts in AppleScript. It's for everyone from newbies to experienced scripters, and it contains discussions on scripting style, how to script popular applications like Palm Desktop and AppleWorks, where to find obscure scripting additions, and ways to improve the performance and readability of your scripts. "

Note the "it's for everyone from newbies to experienced scripters..."

I didn't say it wasn't for newbies; I said that I believe that it's not supposed to be a substitute for manuals and tutorials.
