Like all things in life, there are times and places which prefer each of the myriad versions. Top posting is appropriate when you want to include the entire email thread for new participants. It is not generally necessary on a mailing list where many threads are actually ongoing conversations and/or arguments and the subject heading is completely irrelevant (looks around).
As far as teaching goes, there's more learning that goes on here than explicit teaching, at least assuming that has doesn't go off on some lecture and ramble on for 3 screens (and my screens are TALL).
Nevertheless, teaching does occur here on occasion, and we don't wish to discourage it, so please allow those who care to teach to do so. However, the learning ultimately falls upon the reader, and they need to participate enough to ensure that they understand what's going on enough for them to accomplish their goals, whatever those may be.

While the first and second sentences are sensible, the third is completely devoid of sense and downright insulting.
While the MacScripting list has traditionally had more expert level discussions than the AppleScript Users list, it is no more or less harsh or sanctimonious than the people who make it up, many of whom are on this list also. There is no policy of harshness for the MacScripting list.
If you have a problem with someone, that should be unrelated to the list.
Unless it's this bozo:

I have a problem with this guy. Perhaps I should call Karen. ;)

That why we're here.
