Assuming you're using 10.4 (Tiger), that is. Of course, the fact that "choose from list" won't attempt to sort the list for you can make type-select sort of confusing to use, but it does work.

To be precise, it works alphabetically. Using the example that Bob Poland sent me privately, if there are "green" and "gray" in the list, it will choose gray first until you type gre, regardless of which comes first in the list.
