This response doesn't address recording, but...

Because you say you are new, I recommend that you get the demo of PreFab UI
Browser (http://www.prefab.com/uibrowser/) and give it a real workout during
the demo period. I think it can offer quite a bit of learning assistance. If
you decide you want to buy it, as I did, you'll get excellent support. I'll
admit I've been following some of the PreFab folks posts on this an other
lists for years, but I still think that's an unbiased assessment.
