In looking at Mail's dictionary, I'd say you're correct in assessing that this functionality is missing.


If I were in your position, I'd probably look at modifying the Mail preferences file manually to achieve your goals. Then again, using UI scripting might be more compatible for the long term.

Make a copy of ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist and then turn on the prefix manually. Compare the two files to see how the MailAccounts keyed info differs. I see that on one of my IMAP accounts for which I specify a prefix, the value is stored in the ServerPathPrefix key of the MailAccounts entry.
