And the Finder window sidebar and toolbar? ;)
But I think our three suggestions overlook Peter's request for something
that will run _compiled scripts_ (if he indeed meant that, specifically.)
The dock, the sidebar and the toolbar all will open a compiled script, not
execute it [OMM, X.3.9]. Script applications are treated differently, of
course.

Tangentially related, WRT AppleScript-minded floating palette tools...
Although this is not a palette to which one adds items, 'Mr. PC' (odd name)
is the application switcher palette that I use, and it has two helpful
features for AppleScript authors.
Clicking and holding the icon of a running application in the palette
presents a contextual menu. One of the options is "Open AE Dictionary" and
another is "Create Scripts Folder".
I find these two almost incidental and secondary features to be very helpful
when needed. They are minor little touches, but they really turn an ordinary
switcher palette into a useful tool for the AS programmer. Running script
applets/droplets do appear in the palette, of course, since they are
applications, and can be dragged to or quit as can other apps/icons.
The about box for Mr. PC does not have a URL, but the app is titled "Mr.PC"
(no space in about box) and is written by H. Iimori.
