Yes it is the clients that are the problem. And this is where the Applescript comes into play. When a client opens the main FM database the opening script will contain the applescript to check the clients clock and compare it to a time server.

Every client on the network has the Date and Time set to automatic. This problem does not happen all the time but when the power goes out in a plant and the first few minutes of the user opening things back up and creating records. Also when they unplug the computer and move it somewhere.

To correct the few windows computers we installed programs to check the time as well and set automatically.

This is a little off topic, but...

Actually, if your dates are out of whack the problem lies in your
FileMaker clients (FM client computers), not the server. When a record
in FileMaker is committed, it uses the local time of the machine (FM
client) that updated/inserted the record. Server simply serves the
database up to be used.

You may have one or more client machines on your network that don't
have the Date and Time Preference set to automatically check against
time.apple.com. Also, are there any PC's that use the FM Server? I've
seen Windows clocks drift way off over time...

Hope that helps.

Jim

True. How frequently is it checked? I have not been able to
determine this accurately. We have many G3 iMacs with dead
batteries, once the power is out the clock is set to any odd date
and
time. I have seen many records in our DBs with inaccurate dates.
Also a lot of our data is using calculations involving the date and
time. It is odd to see that a job in our plant took -7777 days for
us to complete. We have set every computer with the Set Date & Time
Automatically. The problem still continues. This apple script will
help us with the time the power is restored to the time the clock is
checked then corrected.

I assume you know that the Date and Time Preference panel has a

time
is checked frequently enough to assure that (current time) in a
script is very close to correct.

Is there any way Apple Script can compare the current time of the
computer to an external time server, i.e. time.apple.com? It would
also be nice to have the Script to update the computer clock if it
is
off by a day. Minutes and hours are not the important. If it can
not update the computer clock we can get Filemaker to show a message
that the clock is off and call us, then quit.

Is this possible before I start to find an answer?
