I can see the dictionaries just fine using "Smile"

Heh. I should improve the error reporting there, since that message
is only funny when it's happening to someone else [1]. There's a
very limited set of circumstances that could cause it; since you're
seeing it for all dictionaries, the most likely one is that a system
resource is missing or damaged. (Specifically, "/System/Library/
Frameworks/OSAKit.framework/Resources/dictionary.xsl".) Have a look
in Console and see if there's an error message about "sdef parse
failed"; that (or its absence) should provide a clue.
