The Mac user community is so ripe for a trojan, it's not even funny
Funny, concerning the same topic but at a different place, I wrote the
following this morning:
Further, let me add this: The common belief "We are safe on our Macs" is probably a bad thing that should disappear from people's heads. Of course, we shouldn't change things to the opposite and spread fear and panic - after all, the Mac hasn't suddenly become insecure or something! In fact, I believe OS X a very, very well designed and secure platform. But the belief that nothing can happen to you anyway is the most stupid belief one can have! There's no need to install half a million virus scanners, but there IS a reason to be a bit careful and use a tiny bit of common sense when using any computer system. 99% of all infections, even on Windows, could probably be prevented with a little less stupidity and a little more care.
Well, we're off-topic right now, but I believe that the most *dangerous* thing here in the Mac camp is the automatic belief of "we're safe on our Macs" and an automatic assumption that a new trojan isn't "for real". Indeed, the current one isn't much of a threat, but sooner or later a real threat WILL come our way. And those with the "I'm safe anyway" attitude may have to learn a hard lesson then.
Greetings,
Nils
