That's not a valid absolute POSIX path.  Try this:

"/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/me/Desktop/abc.pdf"

It's a common mistake to assume that POSIX paths can be specified in HFS-style, where the volume name comes first.

the attachment never is attached.


What am I missing here?  Shouldnt an absolute path name name work as well?  Is this a function of where "mail.app" is located?
