In desperation with my new(ish) iMac running Tiger and totally unable to cope with Spotlight finding 8,000 files every time i want something, I'm trying to script something that will search by name, like in, uh, the dark ages of 10.3.9. I can't revert since this shipped with Tiger and those pop-up menus are hard work on my mouse-sensitive RSI.
The recent mails on this list show similar grumbles, people reinstalling 10.3, etc. The 'find' command seems to be broken (as per a message in August...). I tried Automator but can't work out how to get it to *show* the results...
where do I start, when 'find' is broken in the Finder? Has some kind soul written this already or know what I should tell to search? (spotlight's not an application...it's not scriptable! ha!)
(didn't we already do this with Sherlock years ago? Similar problems, then the old 'find' window reappeared in OS 9, wasn't it? And Sherlock became a specific (and little-used, by most) tool for the internet. Didn't anyone notice the wheel being carefully reinvented here...?:-)
