The link I posted points to a web page that features instructions for
implementing a contextual menu item to accomplish the task three different
ways: with an Automator action, with an On My Command menu item, and with a
Big Cat menu item. Using one of those methods, you simply perform a
contextual click (commonly referred to as a "right click", although when
using a traditional Mac one-button mouse, the action is accomplished by
holding down the control key while the mouse button is pressed) on the
desktop icon of the volume that is mounted from a disk image, select the
appropriate contextual menu item from the resulting list, and then the disk
image that contains the selected volume will be revealed in the Finder. In
the Automator version, there is even an option to copy the path of the
revealed disk image to the clipboard. The script isn't perfect. Results are
unreliable if two mounted volumes have the same name (please see Bug ID#
4268039). Each version of the script is completely open and editabable. It's
even listed at ScriptBuilders. If you're interested, please ask me
questions. I'll do my best to answer them. If you examine the script,
perhaps you'll even be able to recommend a workaround for the bug, which I
would greatly appreciate.
Here's the link again in case this explanation promotes any additional
interest.
