My experimentation leads me to believe that the only way I would be able to script the column view column width would be by using the interface scripting tools to drag the grow area box of the column itself... I'll stick to using the swap from column view to icon view and back technique that I know works.

It would be nice, however, if this bug would eventually get fixed. I recently submitted it through the Apple bug report site. I think since I originally reported this back in 10.3, I must have done so through the OS X feedback page...

Here's to hoping there's a new and improved Finder in 10.5 :-)
