Well, you may get things like "MPG3" to work, if the file was saved by an application that also assigned a file type (the OS 9 style type code). If your MP3s were ripped on OS 9, as they were for many of our collections, then they will have that and it will work. If you look in the "info for" the file you'll see if they have it. From one of my MP3 collection I get.
file type:"MPG3", file creator:"hook", type identifier:"public.mp3"
That file was ripped on OS 9. But if I have an MP3 that doesn't have the file type and file creator defined, which it may well not be, then what I get from "info for" is this:
file type:"", file creator:"", type identifier:"public.mp3"
and using MPG3 won't let you select them. Those old type and creator codes are, much to my chagrin, no longer the type identifier of precedence.
