How To Read a Dictionary

I don't use AS much but I seem to recall that one could read an application's dictionary by dropping the app on Script Editor or via the Open Dictionary menu item. Has this changed?

I have a Cocoa app which has all kinds of scriptability but I cannot open its dictionary by either of the above methods.

Is there some special way to read a Cocoa app dictionary?
