In my last posting, I said ...
I've looked at the file's 'type identifier', but it's of no use at all.

I took a second look and found that at least one of my test files may have been invalid.


Here is what seems to be true:

return delimited files have type ident "com.apple.traditional-mac-plain-text"

linefeed delimited files have type ident "public.plain-text"
