We are pondering whether we should publish a page such as:

Being curious ... I looked ... and read ...
Developer Tools or not Developer Tools?
Most of the commands presented here are included in the standard install of Mac OS X. However some commands are installed only if you install the Developer Tools: make sure to test your script on a machine without the Developer Tools installed if you expect to distribute it.

There is a solution and another problem here. My solution to this problem was to simply copy "SetFile" into the /Contents/Resources/ folder of my application package. I can send my 'do shell script' command to that file instead of the Developer/Tools/ copy and I don't care if some user has not installed Developer Tools. Later I decided to use Mod Date instead of Creation Date and removed this command from my application since I no longer needed it.

Which brings up another problem. Had I kept SetFile in my application, I would have needed to satisfy some license requirements for redistribution. The SetFile man page shows "BSD General Commands Manual" on the first line and "Mac OS X" on the last line. I went from the bsd.org web page to an Apple web page, but found nothing claiming to be THE license document for SetFile. I am also having a similar problem with a DarwinPorts command.

If anyone knows more about this, I would like to know.
