Ruth, if you would install Smile (a free AppleScript editor and environment)
you can use the very fast script provided in that package: Synchronize
Folders. (And all the other niceties of that editor and its tools.)
Synchronize Folders is very fast and accurate and works equally well on
small or large backup jobs. (You could even take that script and modify as
needed to add other tasks or interaction, since it's 100% AppleScript and
100% editable.)
