Gary,

I've been urged by others to fall back to "do shell script" and curl, but the argument you make is more compelling than any other I've heard. I've already decided to abandon URL Access in favor of a Unix back-end.

I was looking for a "pure AS" solution, but since darwin is probably going to be the basis of the Mac OS for a long, long time, I don't suppose anything I write is in danger of being obsolete because I used "curl."

I thank everyone who weighed in on this subject with their opinion. Though it didn't make URLA work any better (or at all), it certainly got me to thinking and make some different decisions, so I think the discussion served its purpose.
