Hi

Mailman has the functionality to selectively filter topics. It could be
set-up so that you can unsubscribe from postings that subject start with
[shell]. I'm on a number of lists where this runs quite well, in
particular for OS issues in some programs which are dual platform where
you can filter out [win] or [mac] according to your preference.

This obviously doesn't solve the issue about whether shell should be on
another list, but some mail-list have found this keeps everyone together
and allows you to keep things "relevant to you".

I've no idea if apple would do such a thing, who is the list admin?
