Be very careful about putting any kind of password and username, especially with root privilege, into code. Don't spoil OS neXt's pretty good reputation.
Have a look at the older UNIX technique of establishing a $HOME/.netrc file with usernames and passwords associated with machines which are usually web domains but can be anything. The file is set to read only by the user and no access by anyone else. It's trivial to access it in a script language like perl and I suspect reasonably easy in AppleScript. It's customary to refuse to use it if the privileges aren't set right.
And then there's the keychain but methinks we share a common dislike for that.
