Many great suggestions from many great people!
I like the idea of activating the eject menu item on this Mac so it's
simply there all the time. F-12 also worked a treat with that old keyboard
but for others who don't know that F-12 ejects the tray (like I didn't)
the menu extra is a good backup help.
Cheers to all!

ps. Anthony, If I may offer you some assistance here. If you have a
troublesome CD/DVD that won't eject you can reboot and hold the mouse key
down during the first part of the bootup. When the Firmware is being
loaded it looks for depressed keys. The Mouse button pressed forces a disc
to eject. There are also shareware utilities which will force eject a disc
(without the need for a reboot) and perhaps the recommended shell script
options will also work. The shareware util "Eject Me!" uses the following
shell script command if it has trouble ejecting a disc normally: do shell
script "hdiutil eject -force " & the_volume2

Re: Ejecting the tray on CD/DVD Drive
I've got an Xserve with a slot loading Superdrive .... occasionally
if I burn a disk and it picks up a problem it does not eject the cd.
Only way around this is to boot up in Open Firmware mode (Cmd Option
O F) and put in the command "eject cd" (without the quotes). This
definitely gets the disk out. Painful I know but as of yet I have
not got a workaround to the original problem. Apple want the machine
for extensive testing and I can't afford to have it out of
commission for that long.
Hope this is of some help.
Kind regards
Anthony
