Understood, Yvan. However, my suggestion in this case was attempting to get close to the OP's aim.

Hello

OK.

I got a HD crash and discovered that by mistake I erased my external backup when swaping my disk with my daughter one.
So, I am unable to read the old messages contents ;-(((

Surprising enough, the failure stroke while I was simply checking my partition 4 (boot from partition 1) with the "TechTool Deluxe" delivered by AppleCare.
When I ran Disk Utility from the external HD, it said (in French)

"Erreur : La tâche sous-jacente a signalé un échec à la fermeture"

The techie in the repair workshop linked to AppleCare said that it's a well known message.
I gave the disk for a recover process and cross my fingers.

So, don't worry if I was unable to take care of the original demand ;-)
