System Events: 1.3.1

Show-off. ;-)

I can't see how you can access *that* slider using AS.

The pitch shift and the playback sliders beneath it have no IDs, names, numbers or any other form of identification that will make them addressable - even with a UI kludge! Nothing in the dictionary either :-(

Right - the dictionary was my first port of call, too. I don't know the history of the controls, but those 3 unnamed sliders look as though they might have been bolted on after the original, named set. The sequence of UI elements bears no resemblance to the order in which the sliders appear in the window, either. :-/

FWIW, here's a brief rundown of the sliders (with a few general observations in brackets):

Group 1:
--------
slider "balance" [value range: -1.0 (L) to +1.0 (R)]
slider "treble" [value range: -8.0 (min) to +8.0 (max)]
slider "base" [(sic) value range: -8.0 (min) to +8.0 (max)]
slider 4 [(pitch shift) value range: -400.0 (4 semitones down) to +400.0 (4 semitones up)]]
slider "volume" [value range: 0.0 (silent) to 2.0 (loudest)]

Group 2:
--------
slider 1 [(jog shuttle) value range: -50.0 (fast reverse) to +50.0 (fast forward)]
slider 2 [(playback speed) value range: 2.0 (1/2) thru 4.0 (1x) & 7.0 (2x) to 8.0 (3x) (go figure)]

In QuickTime Player 7.1.1, all seven sliders can be controlled via GUI scripting (although, wherever possible, it obviously makes more sense to script QuickTime Player direct). Looks like that accessibility may have become broken in either 7.1.2 or 7.1.3. :-(

Thanks for the feedback, Martin.

Can report that the MacBook microphone is pretty good (especially with ambient noise reduction) for snooping the daft conversations of my fellow commuters on the train.

Ah - so *that's* why you got a new MacBook...
