Why does it save them as PowerPC only? Why not Universal?
Because single-file applets have a number of different deficiencies
that bundled applets don't, and we didn't want to spend time updating
a format we'd like people to quit using. (Understanding, of course,
that they are still useful for running on old systems. By definition,
however, none of those are Intel.) The current UI does not make this
clear, admittedly.

P.S.: Resource forks will be supported for quite some time to come.
(If you didn't notice, Tiger actually made them work a whole lot
better across the system.) Their use in new software, however, is not
encouraged.
