zip archives are created and opened by the application
"BOMArchiveHelper" located in the folder startupdisk/System/Library/
CoreServices/. It has no dictionary, so it's not scriptable, but it
does respond correctly to drag & drop.
You may be able to pass an archive/file/folder to it with something
like ...
-- set bomAppl to an alias to the application "BOMArchiveHelper"
-- set itemRef to an alias to the file/folder you want to archive or
un-archive
tell application "Finder"
open itemRef using bomAppl
end tell
Let us know if this works.

I know in Tiger - under the file menu - that there is a 'create
archive'
command - where you can .zip what ever folder is currently
highlighted...
Assuming my desired folder =
set target of Finder window 1 to folder "thisOne" of disk "myDisk"
... Is there a way to get AppleScript to trigger the 'create archive'
command and .zip this folder?
