Does anyone know when and by whom attachments are converted from Base64, binhex,AppleDouble, or UUencode? Eudora does that as messages are read and attachments are never stored with the message. They are placed in a separate folder and an alias is attached to the message.

Apparently AppleMail is doing the conversion only when asked. But is it? and does one have to specify decoding in an AppleScript?
