That AppleScript has a "near-to-English" syntax is both a blessing and a curse. For me AppleScript was more or less the first language I used to do things (actually it was HyperTalk. And I do still miss HyperCard!). The blessing is that it invites non-programmers to try their luck. The curse of course is that the simplicity is deceptive. I do feel comfortable with AppleScript and I still use it for small scripts. But I must say that these days for larger projects (I do Adobe Scripts most of the time) I actually prefer using JavaScript.
