As much as I disagree with Skeeve in general, I must agree with the point about emptying the Trash. I don't want any app emptying it without my say-so. It's not that I leave stuff in there; I usually empty it immediately after putting something in. But if for whatever reason I haven't done that, I certainly don't want an app doing it for me without warning. By the same token, if the Trash suddenly has stuff in it that I didn't put there, that'll make my nose twitch as well, and I'll waste time looking to see what's in there...
But I also don't have a problem with "do shell script". It has a fixed $PATH, which makes it safer than many call-out-to-shell solutions. I would prefer if it took a list instead of a string, but at least you have safe methods for interpolating values (quoted form of...) to avoid injection attacks.
