This is *exactly* what I wrote TextCommands for:

Yes, it requires a separate download and install, but it's mature, free and open-source, and will remain that way indefinitely, so is as safe and trustworthy a dependencies as you can hope for. Don't expect Apple to provide everything for you; life is too short. AppleScript helps those that help themselves (with apologies to Aesop). Tell your friends, etc.
