This behavior is a religious issue and was instituted on the Apple lists years ago.

Of the dozens of lists I belong to only Apple's exhibit this aberration.

I think its stupid as spit, but I've learned to live with it:

I just hit "Reply to All" and muck the headers so I don't double-message the poster.
